With TU Berlin towards „Water 4.0”

Urbanization and climate change pose major challenges for today´s water industry. Intelligent solutions are needed more than ever.

In a pilot project, TU Berlin and Siemens are developing strategies for increased efficiency in the water and wastewater management. The team around Prof. Paul Uwe Thamsen from TU Berlin´s Fluid Systems Dynamic department is examining how pumping stations can be optimized using a digital twin. The test facility is equipped with high-tech automation and digitalization solutions from Siemens. The concepts developed here can be quickly transferred to actual plants.

“We can show customers and other interested parties our work in a real environment”, says Prof. Thamsen. “The combination of the digital twin and the real plant provides an ideal research environment, in which innovative new sensors and actuators can be field-proven. This enables us and our partners to swiftly market innovation”.

Siemens project leader Dr. Markus Lade, Head of Water and Waste Water industry, adds: “We´re making the rather complex topic of digitalization both simple and tangible here. This shows that we are able to implement concrete applications with our products now, with digital solutions providing real benefits to our customers”.
